Two Fort Wayne Men Dead After Early Morning Accident

Parr Richey Frandsen Patterson Kruse LLP | Jun 5, 2014 | Car Accidents |

Late last month in Fort Wayne, Indiana, two men were pronounced dead after they were involved in a fatal car accident on Butler Road. According to a report by Indiana News Center, the men were believed to be heading northeast when their vehicle left the road and crashed into a nearby tree.

When investigators arrived at the scene of the accident, the car was engulfed in flames. One of the victims was lying outside the vehicle and the other was trapped inside. Both accident victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are still conducting their investigation into what caused the accident. However, a preliminary assessment suggests that speed was a factor in the fatal single-vehicle accident.

Speeding Second Only to Distracted Driving for Causing Fatal Accidents
Almost everybody speeds at some point. And that is part of the reason why speeding is the second most common cause of traffic accidents in the United States, according to Drivers.com. The most common cause of car accidents is distracted driving. Following close behind in third place is drunk driving.

Speeding is dangerous for several reasons. First, a car traveling at a higher speed takes longer to come to a complete stop than a car traveling at a lower speed. This means that speeding can make it more difficult to avoid all kinds of accidents, including rear-end collisions.

Second, speeding gives drivers less time to react before it is too late. By traveling at a faster speed, road obstacles approach that much faster, taxing the driver’s ability to comprehend what is coming up ahead.

Third, a car travelling at a high speed has a more difficult time negotiating tight corners. This means that speeders end up losing control and drifting off the side of the road more than other drivers.

Whatever the case, the bottom line is that speeding is extremely dangerous. When drivers speed, they are putting their own need to be on time in front of the safety of themselves and others. That is why in many cases, the law holds speeding drivers responsible for the accidents they cause, requiring them to pay for the property damage and personal injuries caused by any accident caused by their speeding.

Have You Been Hit By a Speeding Driver?

If you or a loved one has been hit by a speeding driver, you should speak to an experienced Indiana personal injury attorney as soon as possible to discuss the facts of your case. It may be that the speeder is responsible to you for any property damage or personal injuries caused by the accident. However, the other driver, as well as their insurance company, is not likely to concede fault without a fight. That’s where a dedicated personal injury attorney can come in handy. With an attorney’s help you can feel confident that you will not be taken advantage of by the other driver or their insurance company.
